I can handle this

Well Jen has called on me to continue the "picture game"

And I can handle a post that pretty much does everything for me. So here goes:

the rules:

1. Open the 4th picture folder on your computer.

2. Open the 4th picture and post it on your blog.

3. Explain the picture.

4. Tag people to do the same

This is a great picture taken at Disney World during Spring Break of '08. Specifically, this is epcot and although I do not know the exact country that this totem pole represents, I can safely say that I will find out over Christmas Break this year! I cannot wait to go back with the entire family and it will be particularly cool to see the faces of Jenni, Addi, Eli, and Cami as they see this great place for the first time. Well Jen's first time in a long time anyway. It should be a fun trip for all.

I wish I had more blogging activity and friends because then I would tag somebody to continue this game. Instead, I am officially calling out my brother publicly (or as public as this oh so popular blog is) to enter the social networking world and FINALLY get a facebook or a blog. We'll see if he takes my challenge.

Until next time, Enjoy the summer.

I suck at blogging...

Well guys here is a little post that I hope you enjoy--hey its better than nothing!

I managed to get up super early this morning (which is 7:20 for me- okay not that early), which is why I am even able to post anything at all.

Here are a couple of videos that I found this week...I hope you like them.

This one was found through an email my mom sent me:

and here is an awesome song by that American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Jason Reeves--who is one of my favorite singers...

Odds and Ends

You guys have got to check out this new stuff...

I just officially finished my first ever elevator pitch. I entered a competition here and I was allowed 2 minutes to speak about a business idea I have and then 3 judges asked me questions for about 5 minutes. It was a lot of fun and a great experience! I did not do too well, but I will for sure enter next year and do a lot better.

I am going back to Ankeny later today to spend the weekend with the family. I get to hang out in Missy and J's new house! I am very excited to see the place and have a good weekend.

Oh if anyone needs a source of comedy in their lives, I have the solution...

Jenni and I watched all 17 episodes between Friday night and Tuesday. It was probably the best purchase I have ever made!!
Ok I have to get to class. More updates to come.

This is unbelievable!

Okay, so this isn't much of a post, but check out this article I found. This stuff is amazing.

Anyway, there will be more to come this week as I am planning on attending a speed reading seminar, and I will no doubt have some thoughts to share about that.

One last thing, yesterday in my Ethics course we were discussing metaethics. Which I am pretty sure is the ethics of ethics. Quite confusing. But we came across an interesting question and discussion that followed. Do you think MORAL BELIEFS are a matter of fact? or a matter of taste? We were comparing them by saying a matter of fact would be, for example, 2+2=4, and a matter of taste is, for example, "I like dark chocolate." I just thought I could get your guys' views on this...Feel free to share your thoughts.

Catch you all later.

winter break is treating me well

Hi all. It has now been a ridiculously long time since my last post and for that, I apologize. I guess my excuse is that I have been caught up in all the fun that winter break has brought me. Without getting into too much detail, I will tell you this: I am blessed to have a fantastic group of family and friends to enjoy my break from school with. I can't say enough about how much fun I have had for the last couple weeks and trust me I will be savoring these last 9 days or so. Here are some brief highlights as to what has been going on in my life:

1. A successful, but definitely stressful week of final exams.

2. Christmas festivities. It was truly a memorable celebration of Jesus' birth. Great presents, great food, great laughs. I want to thank everyone who made my Christmas special.

3. New Years Eve. Jenni and I had a blast playing Rock Band with Sydney and Jackson. Let me tell you Jenni and Sydney were a dynamite vocal duo!

4. Outback Bowl. I was overjoyed to see Iowa dominate South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. It was great to watch the game with friends at Jenni's house. What a game it was, and with the analysis of Steve and I, we have decided that Iowa Football will be even BETTER next year. Go Hawkeyes! Best of Luck to Shonn Greene in the NFL. Oh and I hope Paul Rhoades leads ISU to greatness!

5. Staying busy. A few other highlights include hanging out with Missy, J, and the kids (SO glad I get to see them whenever I want), seeing Marley and Me with Jenni, Brian and Danielle, celebrating Missy and my Mom's birthdays, and having a lot of fun with Jenni doing all kinds of things.

I hope to stay productive for the next week or so. I am hoping that my Dad, and possibly Brian and I can build some new bookshelves for the apartment. I am also hoping to go ice skating in Des Moines. Lastly, I have begun raising money for Dance Marathon and I hope to get most of that done within the next week.

I am beyond thankful for the litte things of winter break such as waking up to my dog, playing with my nieces and nephew, not stressing about school, and staying healthy and happy.

My First Appearance

Well, its finally here. My first blog post. Truth be told I have had this blog for almost a month now just sitting here with no posts, no nothing. I don't know if it was the pressure to have sudden words of wisdom (which I can assure you will be few and far between) or the fact that my eloquent girlfriend was quickly becoming a blogging sensation among our family and friends with the creativity and intelligence that she put into her posts. Either way, it was like I ran to jump into the water and stopped, too afraid to get my feet wet. But here goes nothing. Cannon ball.

I suppose I will start off with an update for you guys as to whats going on in my life. I am now nearing the end of my first semester as a sophomore here at Iowa, and its definitely been a fun, FAST semester. The last couple of months have been pretty crazy, to say the least. To start things off, I received a phone call from my Mom on a Friday afternoon in late October to hear some terrible news that my Dad had been admitted to CICU at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines and was scheduled to undergo emergency double bypass open heart surgery. I rushed home and later that night my Dad was taken into surgery. I honestly cannot tell you everything that went through my head that week. I am lucky enough to have a terrific father that also is a great friend of mine, as well as my hero. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and stress he has gone through since being surprised with the news of surgery on that lazy fall Friday afternoon, but one thing is for sure...he is strong. Although there were some bumps in the road, he is recovering extremely well, and I have to say the moments I spend with him will no longer be taken for granted. Its nice to know that God will only give us challenges that we can handle, and my Dad handled his situation with the courage, strength, and perseverance that I can only one day dream to possess. Honestly, I cannot thank everyone enough for their prayers and sympathy that helped get my family and I through all of this. I want to particularly thank my Mom for being a rock through this whole thing and staying strong. I also want to thank Jenni for being by my side every step of the way...I thank God you were there with me. Lastly, I want to thank Missy, J, Brian, Danielle, and Uncle Terry for teaching me how to handle a tough situation like this one. I wish my Dad a full, speedy recovery.

After such an unfortunate event as my Dad's surgery, I was so incredibly happy to soon be blessed with another cute niece. Camden Shea Starr was born on November 12. She is as good as a baby can be: Cute, calm and happy. She is lucky to have wonderful parents, siblings, grandparents, and uncles and aunts that will be able to love her to pieces.

Thanksgiving break was awesome. I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Rosemount, Minnesota and visit my Dad's twin brother and his family. It was a fun time, with lots of great food. The one downer of Thanksgiving break was that Jenni was very, very sick. She caught a bad case of the flu and unfortunately had to take up temporary residence on the couch. I know she is upset that she missed a delicious thanksgiving meal at her Dad's house. Luckily, she has made a full recovery as we enter into the home stretch of first semester.

As far as things that I have been doing lately, here goes:
I was able to fortunately invest some money into the stock market with my brother-in-law, J. We are having fun tracking our progress and continually reading about how we can make more great investments. Jenni's brother Michael came into town from Arizona to watch the Iowa vs. Penn State game, and although he left early because he was too cold (Weakling, haha) we were still able to have a great time with him, his girlfriend, Beth, Jenni's other brother Brandon, and his girlfriend Katie. Tonight, Jenni and I registered to become a part of the largest student organization on campus. Its called Dance Marathon. It sounds like a  lot of fun, with a great cause. Check out this video:

Anyways, I think that about does it for me. There will definitely be more posts to come. Although I am not a great writer (my sister definitely is, check out her blog), I will do my best to at least entertain you guys and let you know whats going on in my life. I tend to find a lot of articles online that I find interesting, and I will be sure to share those with you. I will leave you with a couple pictures:
